Students in “The Business of Music” course offered by KCC’s Continuing Education program have had first-hand access to the titans of the music world, getting the inside scoop about what it takes to enter and succeed in the music industry. “The Business of Music” course is being offered to the general population taught live online via Zoom. Taught by hip-hop music manager and president of management at Cinematic Music Group, Hovain Hylton, the 10-week course has offered students in-depth knowledge on marketing and branding, publishing deals, business positions needed for an artist’s success, and more. Running, Tuesday's from 6pm-7pm. Those interested in joining the course should call and ask about course VSE 90. Van Lathan Jr, @vanlathan established host and media personality from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He can be heard weekly on The Red Pill podcast, which garners over 50,000 listeners per episode. Van's passion for sports, entertainment and news comes across in his reporting and insightful interviews. Karen Civil @Karencivil. EVP of Young Money Records & Lil Wayne. Karen is a public speaker for the women's empowerment movement, drawing from her successes in a mostly male-dominated culture for credentials Young Guru @Youngguru763. Young Guru is an audio engineer, record producer, disc jockey, and record executive from Wilmington, Delaware. In 2019, Young Guru won a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album for mixing the album Everything Is Love by The Carters. He has worked with many leading recording artists, most notably Jay-Z, and an April 2015 Wall Street Journal profile called him "the most famous and successful engineer in the history of hip-hop".
