The Nature of Politics and Government

Politics is primarily driven by ego. Ego is that entity that refuses to allow us to recognize the validity of an opponent's argument or admit that our argument, statement, or action was incorrect. As such, anyone who thinks that politics is about right and wrong or can solve the nation's problems is sorely mistaken. Government under a party system is primarily a political organization. As such, government cannot solve the nation's problems. If anything, any solution they attempt comes with many undesirable consequences. The ideal for government was that it be of the people, by the people, and for the people. But those in the legislature and the executive branch are most often those who have spent their whole lives in politics, and perhaps even majored in political science in college. They know nothing about how to run a business. They know nothing about transportation infrastructure. They know nothing about going to the bank again to try to get a loan for the farm equipment they so desperately need. They know nothing about getting up at 5:00 in the morning to go to a job they hate and getting home about 7:00 in the evening just to go right to bed to do it all over the next day. They know nothing about scraping together each dollar they can over a period of years so they can take their kids to Walt Disney World one day. Look at the root word "govern". In mechanical and electrical engineering, a governor is a device that regulates another device or a process. You might have a governor to regulate power going to an electrical motor to ensure that it does not go too fast. Down the shore, you have go-karts on some of the boardwalks, and those karts invariably have bolts behind the accelerator pedal to prevent them from going too fast; those bolts are governors. For fans of antique music machines, there is a device known as a variac which allows the user to gradually increase voltage going to the machine during its power on, so as to prevent damage to the aging equipment inside. The governor does not feed power to the device directly. It does not lubricate any machinery. It does not provide the raw materials to be processed by a machine. It simply allows the machine or process to run up to a certain limit. Similarly, I believe that the core purpose of government is to simply govern or regulate, not attempt to run the whole show. SO STOP RELYING ON GOVERNMENT TO SOLVE PROBLEMS! Instead, we need government to get back to just regulating as needed and set the people free to solve the problems themselves. They can do it. They did it for 200 years. And they can do it again. The people need to be the dominant force in our country, and the government needs to back off and do its true job.
