Description

The keynote speech will be delivered by Brigadier General John J. Driscoll, retired commander of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, who served more than thirty-three years in the Guard, until his retirement in June 2022. Driscoll joined the US Army right out of college and served in the Gulf War and served as commander of the National Guard task force at the US Capitol following the events of January 6, 2021. While serving as a colonel in the Guard, he was honored as the 2015 Springfield Veteran of the Year. AIC’s multigenerational Alumni Veterans Committee, comprised of alumni spanning more than a half century, sponsors the annual event. The program will begin with the presentation of the colors by the Westover Honor Guard and will include a “Missing Man Table” remembrance; a ceremony featuring a table set for one to symbolize and honor fallen, missing or imprisoned military service members. In keeping with tradition, the winning entry of the College's patriotic essay contest for first-year English students will be read aloud by AIC Veterans Alumni Committee member Douglas Mattson. The observance will close with a laying of the wreath, and the playing of Taps. All are welcome to attend this event being held in the Schwartz Campus Center auditorium.
