Description

Dear Community, Blackpackers (BPs) was created in 2020 to advance economic opportunity in outdoor recreation. At BP our mission is two-fold, to provide gear, outdoor excursions, and outdoor recreation for free or at a subsidized cost. And, to connect participants with volunteer opportunities, internships, jobs, and post-secondary education resources to create a pipeline from outdoor recreation to outdoor industry careers. We envision a world where people are able to participate in outdoor recreation and its economic opportunity regardless of their race or socioeconomic status. It will take all of us to make the beautiful outdoors of Colorado accessible to all and it only strengthens us as a community when we all participate. This year, we ask you to join us in making our mission a reality by sponsoring this event or purchasing tickets to our Hiker Trash Prom. The term "Hiker Trash," is one of endearment and is meant to signify the commodore of the long-distance hiking community who has chosen to ditch social norms. To those who share it, it is a badge of honor meant to own their 'odd' or 'quirky' existence as a sub-culture. "Hiker Trash," hold their heads high as they move through towns after days of stench (from being in the woods), or searching for plentiful food, charging outlets, or WIFI. At this year's event, we uplift that culture by bringing together participants, volunteers, donors, leaders, and local businesses as we celebrate BP's impact to date and welcome the launch of BP Academy in 2023. This year marks a significant milestone in Blackpackers history. It is our first annual fundraiser and we are hosting it at the beautiful Clay Venues in Downtown Colorado Springs. At this year's "Hiker Trash" prom you can expect a live DJ, dancing, heavy appetizers from Chantal at the Black-owned Luchals, drinks from local breweries and wineries, and a silent auction! Together, we’ll raise a glass in celebration of our progress toward making outdoor recreation more accessible to all members of our community. We are also thrilled to share with you more details about upcoming Blackpacker's programming in 2023. For more information or to pledge sponsorship, please contact Patricia Cameron, Blackpacker's Executive Director, at [email protected] or (719) 500-9919. Can't wait to see you there!
