Description

Mourning Dove Book Club Whether your grief is raw and recent, or a well worn wound, you are welcome to join this group. This book club is a place to gather and share with others who have gone through similar experiences. You may be going through a loss yourself, have a loved one who is going through loss, or simply willing to explore themes of grief. Come ready to discuss THE HURTING KIND by Ada Limón. As you read, look for any poem in particular that you may associate with the person you have lost, or the season of your life when you lost them. While sharing your story and connection to the poetry is encouraged, it is in no way required. About THE HURTING KIND: “Limón’s poems are unique for the deep attention they pay to both the world’s wounds and its redemptive beauty. In otherwise dark times, they have the power to open us up to the wonder and awe that the world still inspires."—Ezra Klein Podcast, The New York Times About Ada Limón: Ada Limón is the author of six books of poetry, including The Carrying, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry. Her book Bright Dead Things was nominated for the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. Her work has been supported most recently by a Guggenheim Fellowship. She grew up in Sonoma, California and now lives in Lexington, Kentucky where she writes, teaches remotely, and hosts the critically-acclaimed poetry podcast, The Slowdown. Her new book of poetry, The Hurting Kind, is out now from Milkweed Editions. She is the 24th Poet Laureate of The United States. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ **Update to the Lark & Owl Book Club policy** In order to balance the continued interest in our book clubs with the frequent no-shows, we have moved to a $5.00 fee for all book club events. At the book club meeting, all registered attendees will be given a $5.00 voucher to be used towards the next book club book, or a future purchase. Any individuals who register but do not attend will have 1 week from the event date to pick up their voucher from the bookstore. If the voucher is not claimed, it will be considered forfeited. Please be mindful of this change in policy as you are registering!
