Description
After nine amazing meet ups this year, we're closing out 2022 with our final WSW Founder Meet up hosted by the wonderful Gabriella Gonzalez of Sky Above Trail Grub at Wapato Island Farm, which is a 32-acre working farm owned by Jennifer Rose Marie Serna in Portland, Oregon. Wapato Island Farm is precious and sacred land that is collectively tended by a community with a deep desire to honor the Earth and to preserve and share its beauty and healing power. Gabriella lives on the land and works in community with Jennifer. She's also a holistic nutritionist, private therapeutic chef, grassroots food sovereignty activist and first generation Nicaraguan-American. We've also invited Maria Juan, chef and owner of La Akateka Mayan Food to provide lunch for our bosses. Maria was born in Huehuetenango, Guatemala and raised by her Mayan indigenous tribe. She moved to the US in 2000 and began selling her traditional Mayan dishes on the weekends in 2020. She hopes to open her own food cart next year if she can raise the money. We are honored to have her join us this month. On November 30th, we'll all be treated to Gabriella teaching us wellness rituals to prepare for winter while eating Maria's traditional tamales and mole (vegetarian option included). We have a few other surprises too. Come get fed and inspired! Through the generous donations from the community and our sponsor, PSU, Center for Women's Leadership we've raised enough money to host up to 50 bosses to this uniquely curated experience. NOTE: Due to limited parking space, we strongly encourage carpooling. All of the meet ups have been such a success. Let's end the year celebrating what we've built together all year long. ************************* BACKGROUND PDX Indie Restaurants and Women Founders can benefit from a little community support. So we came up with an idea to combine the two under the collective power of Women Supporting Women (WSW). Gathering on the last Wednesday of every month, we hope to bring business to a woman-owned restaurant and be in community with other founders on our lunch hour. This invitation is for *business owners only. Thank you for your understanding. *The intent of these meetups are to connect true business owners together so they can strengthen their relationships with others struggling through entrepreneurship. Business ownership isn’t for everyone and the folx attending are a certain subset of our community. Of course we are also treating them to an afternoon and much needed break, but the conversations center mostly around navigating this journey and knowledge sharing with other women. We don’t want to exclude folx looking for connection, but at the same time we want to hold onto the integrity of what this is. It truly is a rare and important space. If you feel this is you, you are welcome. If you don’t, I invite you to make a donation to the Treat a Boss GoFundMe campaign to show your support. 1 ticket per customer. Ticket sales are nonrefundable and go toward ALIST, a Filipina-Woman Owned consultancy organizing the event. After the event, we'll share contact information with all who registered to make meeting up again even easier.
