Workshop Overview Skilled communication and inter-cultural competence are vital to our workplace, interpersonal relations and national discourse. How We Treat Each Other gives people effective tools for engaging in difficult conversations, empathetic listening, perspective taking and relationship building. This workshop invites participants to place story telling at the center of their work in order to develop authentic and meaningful relationships. Through the utilization of the principles and their practices we increase our capacity to be peace builders. Participants will learn how to ask open and honest questions; how to listen deeply and how to effectively engage in self-reflection and self-disclosure. Create a Hospitable Community: New members of the cohort will engage in activities designed to build relationships and model the principle of hospitality. Introduction to Principles: Through the discussion of the principles for How We Treat Each Other participants will identify the principles power to transform relationships and lives when utilized intentionally in personal and professional communication. Reflection: Through writing and story sharing participants will reflect on when one principles was used effectively and when a principle was violated or used ineffectively . Asking an Open and Honest Question: Participants will explore the advantages and characteristics of open and honest questions. They will practice asking and answering open and honest questions to then be able to discern the value of this process of inquiry. Making a Commitment to the Principles: Participants will identify one principle that they will commit to intentionally practicing in professional and/or personal lives. Learning Formats Classroom facilitation Competencies Developed Creating Community Listening Skills Story Telling Relationship Building Reflective Practice Performance Objectives Upon completion, participants will be able to: Develop deeper and more meaningful relationships among cohort members Share their lived experiences and speak their truth as it relates to becoming a peace practitioner Identify assumptions and barriers that interfere with intercultural communication Experience continuous personal growth through the application and practices of the principles in their daily lives Use the tools of dialogue, discussion and conversation in the workplace and personal lives
