Welcome to the Operation Sergeant Santa event, held at Joint Base Langley Eustis in Newport News, Virginia! This base has been home to the US Army Transportation Corps. since 1942, with over 20 miles of railroad tracks and many railcars and locomotives brought in to train members of the Army, Airforce, Navy, and Marines on how to operate these mighty machines. Although Active Duty Army Rail ended in 1972, the base still receives rail traffic through the United States Military Railroad. In 2021 the event returned for the first time in 49 years. The combined efforts of the Command at Joint Base Langley Eustis, The Military Railroad Society, as well as donations for car moves from CSX and a generous donation from Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, we were able to give free rides in 2021. This 1 hour ride around Fort Eustis will also include wonderful entertainment as soon as you come to the back of the Transportation Museum for check in. Please follow signs for parking, as well as for entrance to the ticketing area. Please present tickets upon entry. Sgt. Santa has also made plans to visit us again this year as well. In order to get on base a DoD, Veteran, Retired, Contractor or VHIC ID Card holder must be with you. This is not an event open to the general public. Please arrive 1 Hour before departure time. Kiddos that can sit in laps ride free! If they require their own seat, please reserve a ticket for each requiring a seat. We will have accommodations for strollers and car seats not able to be on the train. If you would like to get your hair cut in the Barbershop Car during your reserved train ride, please watch our Facebook and Instagram page for updated info on how to make an appointment with our wonderful Barbers returning from last year. Haircuts are extra at the AAFES trip rate.
