Job Description: This position is a leadership position directly accountable to the Landscape Project Manager. Leadership carries with it a sense of increased responsibility and is demonstrated by example. As a leader within the company, you agree to always represent the company’s best interest and maintain the highest standard of integrity and professionalism. You also agree and commit to instilling the values of the company and the highest standards of excellence both in demeanor and workmanship to the crew that you oversee. You will be responsible for leading and directing a crew of 2-5 in the execution of landscape projects as laid out in the design presented to you and the instruction of the Landscape Project Manager. Communication is essential to the carrying out of this role. As the crew leader, you will need to have ongoing communication with the Project Manager, and your team members. The Landscape Crew Leader must be able to read and understand the blueprints provided by the Project Manager or Designer. You are then required to effectively communicate this information to your team members on a daily, and weekly basis until the project is complete. The Landscape crew leader must at times teach team members how to do their duties by demonstrating the proper technique in the execution of that task. While the Crew Leader is heavily involved in the performance of the tasks required to complete the project, the Crew Leader needs to be able to step back and focus on ensuring that every other member of the team is properly engaged in the work to be done. Aside from giving direction to team members, and being physically engaged in the work, the Crew Leader is responsible for every aspect of QUALITY CONTROL on the job site. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that the worksite stays clean and organized with the trash properly disposed and tools stored in a neat and tidy manner, each task assigned to a team member is done correctly, and the overall project is completed up to the standard of excellence that we as a company have set for ourselves. Another expectation and requirement of the Landscape Crew leader is personal organization. It is imperative that you organize the flow of work at the job site daily and weekly and also, therefore, be able to communicate to the driver and Project Manager the upcoming needs of the project so that the tools, materials and products can be purchased in advance. Daily/Weekly tasks: Daily preparation of trucks and equipment 1. Report to Jobsite 15 minutes before the rest of the team arrives to assess the site and formulate a plan for that day. 2. Call/Communicate with the driver to make sure that the tools, materials, and equipment needed for that day will be brought to the job site. 3. Briefly meet with the install team to lay out the objectives for the day and assign tasks to team members to do them. 4. Meet with the Project Manager to go over any questions/concerns about the project. 5. Send the driver as needed to TDS, or other vendors to procure tools, materials, plants, and equipment as needed. 6. Coordinate with the Project Manager at least two times per day to ensure that we are staying on course to complete the project on time and according to the standard of excellence that we as a business have set for ourselves. a. Just before lunch. This might be a 5-10 minute conversation that confirms that we have everything needed to perform the tasks assigned for the day or is a call for additional labor and materials to stay on task. b. 3:00 Call the Project Manager to discuss the day and what is needed for the next day. Materials and equipment needed for the next day should also be texted to the project manager and driver. 7. After lunch, based on the conversation with the Project Manager, send the driver to dump and procure materials as needed. The afternoon should be a time to make sure that we have the necessary tools/materials for the next day. Perform and manage landscape installation and maintenance tasks on the customer’s property 1. Work in conjunction with the Install Manager/Designer to ensure the work sold is implemented efficiently and according to the contract specifications. 2. Provide management and labor associated with the preparation, establishing correct grades/elevations, excavation, and installation of paver patios, walkways, retaining walls, water gardens, landscape lighting, sediment control, and lawn installation. 3. Delegate labor-related tasks to crew members to ensure the project is being done in a speedy and efficient manner. 4. Provide “on-the-job” training to crew members. 5. Directly address improper behavior/activity of crew members and report to the Project Manager. 6. Oversee proper safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment usage and practices of the crew. 7. Proactively addresses questions or concerns with the crews and generally cares for the welfare of the crew members. 8. Proactively addresses questions or concerns from the clients. 9. Communicate customers’ questions immediately with the Install manager. 10. Update the Project Manager with the status of the work progress. 11. Load tools/equipment to take back to the job site. 12. Make sure the job site is picked up and cleaned and the tools are organized. 13. Report any comments from customers, neighbors, and or contractors to the Project Manager. 14. Report any broken tools/equipment to the Project Manager. 15. Ensure that tools/equipment are being properly cared for by the crew. Welders, generators, and other power equipment need special care. Generators need to be checked daily for proper oil levels etc. Education and experience: *High School diploma or GED. *Minimum 3 years of experience as a Landscape crew leader. *Familiarity with all phases of residential landscaping and light commercial landscaping. *Basic knowledge of Irrigation systems Performance skills and qualifications: *Must Possess a valid Tx Driver's License. *Legally eligible to work in the U.S.A. *Able to communicate in English/ Bi-lingual is ideal. *Ability to lift 100 lbs. plus consistently throughout the day. *Skid loader experience. *Available to work a varied schedule (including Saturdays as needed) in sometimes adverse weather conditions. *Stoop, stand and bend for 8-10 a day. *Ability to read scaled landscape designs. *Drug & Alcohol-free work environment and be willing to take a drug test. *Sound Moral Character
