CALL FOR LIGHT: THE ART OF ILLUMINATION Gallery Opening- 12.9.2022 5:30 - 11:00 pm Location: Past Lives- 2808 SE 9th Ave Past Lives Gallery is hosting a winter show featuring artwork made by the currently Incarcerated & Portland Artists. Details: Gallery Opening: Call for Light, the Art Of Illumination Our "Call for light" is a collaborative showcase with Portland and Incarcerated Artists. We aim to bring light to our prison population and their families though the holidays and our long, cold winters. It is simple to forget about incarcerated people, their families and the over-reach of the justice system; out of sight, out of mind. The community at Past Lives is dedicated to the idea that no human is irredeemable, everyone deserves a second chance and that many have never even had a first chance. We start here by illuminating the creative voices of those on the inside. We have asked Portland artists to shed light on incarcerated artists through illumination themed work — the "light" focused artwork will be partnered with the art we receive through our network of incarcerated persons. Please join us in bringing light and support to the incarcerated peoples through the darkness of winter. Event night:
We will be serving light food and non-alcoholic drinks, hosting the families of the incarcerated during our opening and giving table space to organizations that support the these communities. We will also be collecting messages of support for our incarcerated artists and cash donations for their commissary and for their families. *All donations will be divided equally among the community.
