Bias in Body Type, 5:30-6:00 pm Anti-fat bias and the resulting discriminatory behavior is widely documented and impacts almost every aspect of an obese person’s life. Dr. Kilgore-Bowling will be talking about the impact of this on the lives of people especially those living in the Appalachia area.

Appalachian Stereotypes, 6:00-7:00 pm Ashley is a Kentucky-born director and producer who is interested in documentaries and cinematic journalism. She has worked on Academy Award winning teams and as a producer on projects that have premiered at the Sundance, Berlin and SXSW Film Festivals was well as Netflix, HBO, National Geographic, Oprah Winfrey’s Network, A&E, IFC, Discover and the Sundance Channel. She will be speaking about her documentary, 'Hillbilly' that examines the iconic hillbilly image in media and culture. The film explores more than a hundred years of media representation of mountain and rural people and offers an urgent exploration of how we see and think about rural America.
