Description

The City of Yonkers Mayor's Office is building a climate action plan that will enable the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to the impacts that climate change will have on its communities. The plan will guide local efforts to reduce energy use and waste, create jobs, improve environmental quality, and reduce the vulnerability of people and property to climate change. The CAP is headed by our consulting partner, Buro Happold, an engineering firm with vast experience in developing climate action and adaptation plans, such as New York City’s 80x50 plan and 1.5*C Aligning with the Paris Climate Agreement. We are also working with Starr Whitehouse, a leading landscape architecture firm, to identify vulnerable communities and opportunities for resilience strategy interventions in vulnerable areas around the city. We are partnering with Groundwork Hudson Valley, a local non-for-profit organization focused on creating sustainable environmental change through community-based partnership. Groundwork HV is leading our community engagement efforts and will be leading this workshop. We are holding a public workshop to hear from the Yonkers community what we need to prioritize within the plan. We will use your insight to inform the final list of strategies to be incorporated into the Climate Action Plan.
