EnglishDay of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a holiday observed throughout Latin America that celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed away. One of the most common traditions during this time is the altars (ofrendas/altares de muertos); this is a tradition originating with the Aztecs as they believed that souls continuously live and enter different realms. The altar is presented in order to commemorate the souls of loved ones and let them know that they are not forgotten and will always be welcome back home. This November, the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center is once again presenting a traditional altar to remember the lives lost during Route 91. The altar will be displayed at the Great Las Vegas Taco Festival, November 4 through 6 at Craig Ranch Regional Park. Representatives from the Resiliency Center will be there throughout the festival to share information about our services, including on Saturday at 4:30 PM during the celebration of life and balloon release event to read the names and honor the memories of the 58 we lost on 1 October. We invite everyone impacted by Route 91 to join us during this remembrance event and to view the other altars that will be displayed. If you would like to, you are more than welcome to bring a special item to be put on the altar.* The organizers of the festival have generously donated some single-day tickets for Route 91 survivors and bereaved family members. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis (four tickets max per person) and must be picked up at the Resiliency Center (2915 W Charleston Blvd, Ste 100, Las Vegas, NV 89102) during our regular business hours, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. In addition to the Day of the Dead altars, the festival will have many taco vendors, a car show, fireworks, lucha libre wrestling, mariachis and other music, carnival rides, hot chili pepper and taco eating contests, a Chihuahua beauty competition, and much more. Una de las tradiciones más comunes durante este tiempo es la creación de altares de muertos u ofrendas; esta tradición comenzó con los aztecas, quienes creían que las almas continúan existiendo y entrando en diferentes dimensiones. El altar se presenta para conmemorar las almas de nuestros seres queridos y dejarles saber que no han sido olvidados y que siempre son bienvenidos de regreso en casa. Este mes de noviembre el Vegas Strong Resiliency Center se encuentra nuevamente presentando un altar tradicional para recordar a aquellos que perdimos en la tragedia de Ruta 91. El altar se va a exhibir en el Great Las Vegas Taco Festival, desde el 4 de noviembre y hasta el 6 de noviembre en el Craig Ranch Regional Park. Representantes del VSRC se van a encontrar ahí para proporcionar información sobre nuestros servicios, incluyendo el sábado a las 4:30 p. m. durante la celebración de vida con la liberación de globos y la lectura de los nombres de las 58 víctimas de este trágico evento el pasado 1 de octubre, 2017. Queremos invitar a todos aquellos que se vieron impactados por Ruta 91 a que nos acompañen durante este evento de conmemoración y para ver otros altares que va a haber en exhibición. Si lo desea, puede llevar un objeto especial para añadir a la ofrenda y ser parte del altar.* Los organizadores del festival nos han donado generosamente algunos boletos (válidos por un día de entrada al festival) para los sobrevivientes y familiares de las víctimas. Estos van a estar disponibles hasta agotar existencias (cuatro boletos máximo por persona) y deben de ser recogidos en el Vegas Strong Resiliency Center (2915 W Charleston Blvd, Ste 100, Las Vegas, NV, 89102) durante las horas de oficina, 8:30 a. m. a 5:00 p. m., de lunes a viernes. Además de la exhibición de altares por el día de muertos, se va a contar con vendedores de tacos, una exhibición automovilística, fuegos artificiales, lucha libre, mariachi y otra música, juegos de carnaval, concursos de comida de tacos y chiles, un concurso de belleza de chihuahuas, y mucho más.
