HELD, this panel discussion featuring representatives from Butler University, Indiana University, Marian University and Purdue University will delve into the future of design with respect to Higher Education facilities in the Hoosier state and beyond. Panel Discussion - 5:30pm-6:30pm Networking 6:30pm-7pm - End your evening networking with colleagues while enjoying light appetizers, beer, wine or a soft drink.Program Moderator: Deb Kunce, FAIA Deb Kunce is a registered Architect and the founding principal of CORE Planning Strategies now a part of J.S. Held. Her role is to drive strategy, build relationships, and ensure J.S. Held helps clients achieve their ideal facility. Deb is committed to growing future leaders through involvement in local industry, community groups, and one-on-one mentoring. With over 20 years of planning and construction experience, Deb is a driven project leader who applies creative strategies with practical implementation. Deb is a long-time member and leader of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), including her time as a National Vice President and Board Member from 2009-2013. Program Panelist: Evan Hawkins serves as the Assistant Vice President of Facilities & Procurement at Marian University. In his role, Mr. Hawkins serves as the lead agent for all physical infrastructure on campus, and is the primary point-of-contact for all senior administration on matters related to facilities, operations, and procurement. Before joining Marian University, Mr. Hawkins was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Tindley Accelerated Schools, overseeing finance & accounting, human resources, real estate & facilities, and vendor relations. Prior to Tindley, Mr. Hawkins worked in the Corrections Industry with the Indiana Department of Correction as the Internal Relations Liaison, and then as Director of Strategic Planning and Organizational Development. Doug Morris has served Butler University in numerous capacities since arriving in 2014. Since 2015 he has served as the Associate Vice President of Facilities and Chief Facilities Officer after serving as the interim position for over a year. Previously he served Butler University as the Director of Planning, Design and Construction when he arrived in 2014. Prior to Butler, Doug held positions in several Architectural firms before transitioning to Facilities and Operations as the Division Director of Facilities for Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne. From there he moved to Indianapolis as Department Head of Construction and Building Services with Methodist Hospital, Vice President of Operations and Facilities for IU Health (previously Clarian Health), and Vice President of Healthcare with Hunt Construction Group. Doug is a licensed Architect and is also board certified and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Doug served Ft. Wayne on the Board of Zoning Appeals, Redevelopment Commission and as Chairman of the Sign Ordinance committee. He has volunteered his time in Indianapolis with the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety, Indiana Construction Roundtable, Near North Development Corporation, and Indianapolis Arts Center plus a position on the Ball State Construction Management Program Advisory Board during their initial accreditation process. Michael B. Cline, a professional engineer with decades of leadership and engineering experience in both the public and private sectors, is the Senior Vice President for Administrative Operations at Purdue University. By prioritizing customer care, innovation and management accountability, Cline ensures the organization delivers high quality services at the lowest possible cost. Cline, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, returned to the University in July 2013 as the Vice President for Physical Facilities with responsibility for the design and construction of all university facilities, the operation and maintenance of existing buildings, and the Wade Utility Plant. Current major capital projects underway include the $140M Dudley and Lambertus Halls for the College of Engineering and Purdue Polytechnic Institute, $41M Hypersonics and Applied Research Facility, $73M High Speed Propulsion Lab and $52M Schleman Hall and Stewart Center Renovations for data science and student services.
