Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Irrigation Assistant is responsible for assisting with the installation, programming, operation, and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system as well as the maintenance, repair and installation of underground drainage. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE ◾ High School Diploma or GED preferred. ◾ One year of experience as landscape irrigation assistant or golf course maintenance work preferred. ◾ Physically able to perform heavy lifting and digging ◾ Must be a team player and willing to learn all phases of golf course maintenance ◾ Must be punctual and dependable ◾ Ability to read and understand safety rules ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ◾ Operate and monitor automatic irrigation system for proper course watering. ◾ Assists with repairs and maintains of sprinkler heads, valves, control boxes, piping, wiring, and pumps. ◾ Cleans in-line screens and strainers and performs routine maintenance to pressure valves. ◾ Shovels by hand around broken lines and heads to properly perform repair work. ◾ Operates power saws for cutting pipe. ◾ Edges sprinkler heads and valve boxes routinely for a clean manicured look. ◾ Assists with installing, maintaining, and repairing underground drainage on the property including greens and bunkers. ◾ Cutting and laying sod ◾ Assist with landscaping which includes mowing operations, weeding, trimming plants, debris blowing ENVIRONMENT: ◾ Works in all climate conditions and must wear all protective gear provided when operating power equipment. ◾ Works in confined areas below ground surface. ◾ Works weekends, holidays, mornings or evenings as assigned. ◾ Long hours, including overtime, sometimes required on major irrigation repairs to prevent turf loss
