Description

Your post is a very interesting one, yet has many flaws. You claim the United States is not "founded on the Christian religion", yet our system of laws is all based on Judeo-Christian laws. If not, then your support of denying women the right to reproductive rights makes no sense. It can't be about killing, as you support killing real, cognizant, human beings. Washington was an Anglican that in that time was nearly indistinguishable from the Catholic Church. Madison's religious views are unknown, other than he was a staunch supporter of separation of government and religion. Benjamin Franklin practiced his parent's faith, Puritanism. Thomas Jefferson was born and buried an Anglican, but was not committed, and attended various different religions as the mood dictated. Your post also does not look at current trends. Only 100 years ago, the conservative party (Republicans) believed in a strict separation, and that religion had no part in the political process. They were adamant about limited government intrusions into individual's everyday life. The Democrats, and especially the Dixie-Crats were evangelicals, moralists and believed their faith should guide American principles. When Anita Bryant's failed Save Our Children and later Pat Robertson brought his political aspirations to the GOP, that changed. Ironically, the Democrats now hold the laissez faire, live and let live, government off the backs of people, and the Republican Party has become the moralists. Paul Ryan's Tea Party plus the evangelicals have a stranglehold on the party, thus creating an anti-gay rights, pro-life, anti-birth control, pro ruthless law enforcement.... party of today.
