The Center for Disabilities (dba Center Toward Self-Reliance) is seeking to hire the right candidate as an independent living specialist for our main office. This person will specifically work with individuals having visual disabilities to assist them in living as independently as possible in the community of their choice. This will entail implementing both group and individual services to those in need of this assistance. As such this person will interface with a number of different community agencies, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, the local Area Agencies on Aging, as well as medical professionals providing services to individuals having visual anomalies. Since the Center Toward Self-Reliance covers not only the Pueblo area, but also 17 counties in southeastern Colorado, the person who is hired for this position, may be called upon to travel (with some overnight stays possible) to other counties for which the Center assumes responsibility. Furthermore, if the person hired is deemed fully successful in the performance of assigned tasks the agency will pay for this person to receive master's level training in rehabilitation services (orientation and mobility). Due to the fact that the Low Vision Specialist must interact with consumers on the properties of various nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and given the fact that those within our catchment area require it, anyone applying for the noted job must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Weekly testing for COVID is not an option for this position.
