Description
About the Event: This event is about the PEOPLE! We wanted to do something a little different and bring the discussion to the people LIVE. It will feature a live recording conversation between Tim, April & Michael with audience participation, time to meet new people and of course…coffee…a lot of coffee (and other adult beverages, sorry Fundies). We can’t make any promises, but there may even be some bonfire sin burning, popcorn prayers & trust falls. This event is welcome to all, even you Theobros, even you! About the Guests: April Ajoy April is a content creator who uses humor to shine light on the harmful, toxic and sometimes just weird traits of American Christianity. As a preacher's kid, she was deep in conservative evangelicalism. Some of her evangelical highlights include: singing on the Jim Bakker show, working for the 700 Club and leading worship for over a decade. Still a Christian, she now identifies as a "recovering conservative" and is navigating through her own faith deconstruction journey through a comedic lens on TikTok, Instagram and Twitter. She has been featured on Buzzfeed, CNN, The Young Turks and more. Tim Whitaker Tim Whitaker is the creator and facilitator of the New Evangelicals and host the New Evangelicals Podcast. The New Evangelicals is a Jesus centered and inclusive community dedicated to holding space for those marginalized by the Evangelical church, advocating for accountability and helping people explore the Christian tradition. Michael Rice Michael is founder and CEO of Mad Priest Coffee Roasters in Chattanooga. Mad Priest started in 2015 as a small-batch specialty coffee roasting company & social enterprise with the mission to “Craft excellent coffee. Educate the curious. Champion the displaced.” We currently operate our roastery and two retail locations in Chattanooga, TN. From the beginning, our goal has been to run a sustainable, for-profit business with a triple bottom line (people, planet, profits) that includes social and environmental goals alongside the economic ones. We are righteously indignant about racism & inequality in our country as well as the current unprecedented global refugee crisis. This includes intentionally hiring people from all backgrounds, working alongside our community partners on larger issues of social justice & equity, and giving back to non-profit organizations doing the real, hard work to fight injustice. Parking: Parking will be available at the venue and in the nearby area. There will be parking attendants to help if needed. Please DO NOT park in the next door neighbors lot, Elks Lodge, as you will risk being towed. Disclaimer: The views expressed during this event are indeed the opinions held by the individuals speaking. Like, at least for now. Because we all are evolving and growing and therefore can change are minds, right? Or can we not do that? Maybe we'll get cancelled... who knows. But one thing we do want is authentic engagement about who we are, who we are meant to be, and how to get there.
