Historian Kerri Greenidge will discuss her counternarrative of the lives of white abolitionists Sarah and Angela Grimke. The sisters garnered acclaim for their antislavery writings in the 19th century despite the fact that their Black relatives remained obscured. Ms. Greenidge focuses on the Black Grimkes, their struggles for racial equality, and their familial relations. Kerri Greenidge will be joined in conversation by Howard University history professor and department chair Nikki Taylor.
