Join us for an exclusive sneak peek at Phase 1 of the Long Creek Greenway! On Saturday, Nov. 19, we'll explore the recently-completed section of this north Charlotte trail as part of our Growing our Greenways series with Partners for Parks, Carolina Thread Trail, and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. The new section stretches from Interstate-77 to Treyburn Drive. Phase 2 is expected to be completed in 2023, and Phase 3 is slated to start construction late this year. When finished, the greenway will span roughly 4.5 miles and run from I-77 to Oakdale Road. In addition to the chance to be among the first to explore Long Creek Greenway, you’ll hear updates about the project from Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation staff and learn why we and our partners are advocating for a fast and equitable expansion of Mecklenburg County's greenway network. This is a family-friendly event that is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. All participants will be required to sign a waiver upon arrival. We will follow CDC and local health guidance including social distancing, and we ask that you not attend if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. Where: The event will start and end at the same location adjacent to Long Creek Greenway. There is not an exact street address associated with the trail access point, but we'll have a volunteer in the REI parking lot who will guide you to the starting point. Look for the black Sustain Charlotte tent next to the trail when you arrive to check in. Parking: You can park at the REI parking lot at 9755 Northlake Centre Pkwy. REI is partnering with us on this event, and they're allowing us to use their lot. Please leave the spots closest to the store for shopping customers. CATS bus: This area is served by CATS bus route 7. Plan your ride at ridetransit.org Route: When you register, please indicate if you plan to walk or bike. We'll follow an "out and back" route following the greenway. This will be a comfortable and casual event with no participant left behind. Rain date: In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed. Registered attendees will receive an email notifying you of the change.
