Understanding the basics of fringes, working with unions, legal issues, employment law, and risk mitigation are some of the areas that help all filmmakers navigate production more efficiently regardless of their specialty.
Karri O'Reilly, producer, line producer and UPM with extensive multi-state domestic and international experience, will go through how a project is scheduled and budgeted, and a broad overview on how films are financed including film incentives available to filmmakers at the local, state and federal level.
She'll take you through a sample union feature film budget, and show where to find the information needed to accurately project the costs for various items. She will touch upon the basics of film production accounting and cost reporting, and help explain the basics of how to project, track and report the costs for a production.
While keeping up with all the different rules and rates is a full time job, this workshop will help get filmmakers of all levels more comfortable with the budgeting process and where to go to find the information they need to avoid costly surprises
