Description
Urban Farm Fermentory and MOFGA proudly welcome Claude Jolicoeur, longtime passionate cider maker and author of The New Cider Maker's Handbook, for an evening discussion of his latest work, Cider Planet. Cider Planet explores and celebrates the cultural history, methods, terroir, and traditions of world-class cider. Long perceived as a European country drink, cider now shines as a global culinary delight boosted by a growing appreciation and contributions from emergent regions where cider makers build upon the old while create new traditions. Real cider, craft cider, farm cider, artisan cider: Whatever you wish to call it, at its best, cider is to be enjoyed, explored, and understood just like a fine wine. Cider Planet delves into the rich culture of cider with Jolicoeur serving as an enthusiastic and expert guide. Through stories and insights, travelers and foodies alike are transported through Cider Planet around the world from New Zealand to Europe to the United States and even to Kazakhstan, the birthplace of the domestic apple. Claude Jolicoeur is the author of The New Cider Maker's Handbook, which is acclaimed worldwide as a major reference on the topic of cider making. A mechanical engineer and research scientist by profession, Jolicoeur started making cider as a hobby in the late 1980s and has since earned competition awards including Best in Show at the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition (GLINTCAP). Traveling widely throughout the Cider Planet, Jolicoeur regularly speaks and serves as a cider judge at international cider festivals and events while actively participating in discussion forums such as the Cider Workshop. He lives in Quebec City. --- This event will include a 30-minute author presentation followed by a Q&A. Signed copies of Cider Planet will be available for purchase during and after the event thanks to our event partner, Print: A Bookstore. A $10-20 contribution is suggested at the door or in advance although no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All ages are welcome.
