WHY TAKE THIS CLASS?: There is wide consensus in the scientific community that mindfulness and meditation yield a wide variety of psychological and physiological benefits. It is proven to reduce anxiety and depression and improve cognitive and immune function. But perhaps even more impactful is the way mindfulness alters one’s subjective experience of life, an improvement that affects both perception and behavior. Whether new to mindfulness, continuing, or returning, this class is an opportunity to spend time with others while practicing and learning about meditation. This class draws upon material from the Meditation Teacher Training Certificate Program started by teachers Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. CLASS STRUCTURE: The class will be comprised of talks and guided meditations. There will be opportunities for breaks and Q + A. We will pause for lunch from 12:30-1:30. ALL ARE WELCOME: This class aims to celebrate differences and create a more harmonious world. All are welcome: including all genders, races, sexual orientations, ethnicities, religions, nationalities, ages, abilities, neuro perspectives, and anything else that makes an individual feel themselves. FACILITATOR BIO: Theo Morrison was introduced to meditation as a teenager at a class similar to the one he is now teaching. He has been meditating for the past 20 years, and started teaching meditation and leading groups in 2018. At the start of 2021, he began MMTCP (Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program), a two year training under teachers Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach.
