As a parent my heart breaks knowing that by the time a child reaches third grade, decisions have already been made about their future with regards to the penal system. As a judge and the founder of Project Rebuild, I know that collectively, we can do something about it, and that education is the key.
So it is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I share with you an opportunity to join Project Rebuild for “A Toast to Education,” 3 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Marshall J. Gardner Art Center , 540 S. Lake Street.
The purpose of this inaugural event is to raise funds that will allow Project Rebuild to continue offering tools, guidance and hope to Gary families struggling to embrace a promising future. Project Rebuild is a not-for-profit organization offering truancy intervention and prevention solutions.
Seeing a student go from not being enrolled to earning a football scholarship, or seeing grades go from straight “F’s” to “C’’s” and “B’s” and a few “A’s”, lets me know that in their hearts, there is hope.
I heard a mother say, “I’m looking forward to watching my kids grow up and graduate…it (Project Rebuild) helped my family bond.” Personally, that’s a testament to the critical needs Project Rebuild meets. It’s an awesome task that must continue.
