Horror movies go back to the birth of the movie industry in the late Victorian era. Galen Wilkes hosts this special Halloween show featuring some of the earliest horror films ever made, going back to 1896. The program opens with examples of special effects invented by George Melies in the 1890s. These became standard effects in many horror films and TV shows for the next 70 years. You’ll be treated to the earliest surviving witch movie and classic horror characters Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Dorian Gray and more. The program will end with a bonus hand-drawn Felix the Cat cartoon for Halloween. The films date from 1896 to 1923. An outstanding, rare treat for Halloween fans!
