So, as I see it, the drummer's number 1) job is to keep time 2) Set a pocket with the bass player and rhythm guitar player 3) Control the dynamics of the band, bringing them up on the chorus and down on the verses (and tell the lead guitar player to turn down) 4) back the soloist 5) supply energy 6) solo once a night So that's what I do.
