Tales of civil war, suicide, and celery will be center stage as 13 of Oviedo's founders come to life for a historically accurate discussion about how they lived....and died. This volunteer-driven event is in its 15th year and the characters change every year, so you are sure to learn something new, even if you have attended in the past.
The show begins promptly at 6 p.m. with the sounding of a train whistle that takes us back in time. Come a few minutes early to park along the road or across the street at Oviedo High, then walk to the Cemetery to get oriented and join a tour group. We plan to end promptly at 7 p.m. and share our Famous Walking Tour Pancake Mix Cookies (back after a hiatus for the pandemic). Kids are welcome, and they are the inspiration for the style of the show - standing up with plenty of movement from the audience and a predictable ending time. Come dressed to be outside (plan for the potential of mosquitos). There are NO BATHROOMS or water.
BRING A LIGHT!! Flashlights and other lanterns and lighting devices are welcome - and by the time the event ends, we will need help from the audience to light up the Founders.
The event is FREE, and DONATIONS are also cheerfully accepted. $3+ per person recommended (but there will be no ticket-taker). 100% of anything donated will be used by The Oviedo Preservation Project (TOPP) to reinvest into historical preservation and education efforts. TOPP is a tax-exempt charity that has been serving Oviedo since 2005.
