THE POSITION The Housekeeping Supervisor will lead and supervise Housekeepers on shift to ensure that building cleanliness and sanitation standards are met. The Housekeeping supervisor ensures that a positive overall impression of the Guthrie Theater through the effective practice of appropriate cleaning and sanitation standards is maintained. This position works with the Environmental Services Manager and other staff members to ensure that building maintenance requirements are met. As the theater operates daily and is focused on patron and program needs, a flexible schedule is required. This position is full-time, non-exempt and benefits-eligible. Compensation for this position is $17.77 per hour plus benefits. Shifts will typically be Wednesday through Sunday, with the latest shift being from 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM, reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater. Applicants from populations underrepresented in the theater field are strongly encouraged to apply. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Housekeeping Services • Supervise and oversee as well as carry out the cleaning and sanitation activities of the Guthrie Theater. • Set and maintain a high cleanliness/sanitation standard of excellence. • Create and complete work priorities, daily work lists, and routines for housekeeping staff which may include the following: o Window and glass cleaning o Cleaning restrooms (including toilets and urinals) o Vacuuming and sweeping o Scrubbing and mopping floors o Carpet cleaning o Cleaning upholstery o Washing walls o Cleaning escalators o Emptying trash and recycling containers o Cleaning and care of various surfaces throughout the building o Follow policies and procedures for housekeeping in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. 2. Vendor, Supplies and Safety Compliance • Ensure that housekeeping supplies and equipment are maintained and kept to appropriate levels and standards. • Restock paper products for employee and patron areas throughout the building. • Use chemicals safely and effectively, according to specifications. Report issues or concerns promptly. • Notify the Environmental Services Manager concerning the need for identified building maintenance. • Assist Guest and Visitor Services as needed through housekeeping best practices to maintain patron comfort and safety. • Maintain appropriate housekeeping records to successfully complete inspection protocols. • Practice the established housekeeping program to prevent and control the contact and spread of infection. • Operate and maintain power custodial equipment in a safe manner to one’s self and the building. 3. Leadership and Supervision • Lead, manage and supervise the performance of housekeepers when the Environmental Services Manager is not on shift • Create weekly employee work schedules to ensure maximum cleanliness of the facility. • Actively participate in fostering a work environment centering the Guthrie’s core values of artistic excellence; community; equity, diversity, and inclusion; and financial responsibility. • Attend department meetings to communicate pertinent information along to the employees. • Coach and develop staff members by monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback; facilitating conflict resolution among employees. • Cross-trained in Facilities Assistant roles and responsibilities. Cover duties as needed. Including but not limited to Monitoring Boilers and other HVAC equipment, in mechanical rooms and reporting any observed mechanical issues to the Engineering department. Changing light bulbs, Operation of small power tools. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS • Prior experience serving in a supervisory capacity at large complex facility. Formal, informal and cross-disciplinary experiences will be considered. • Working knowledge of operating, maintaining and repairing power custodial equipment. • Knowledge of OSHA workplace safety practices. • Demonstrated practices and understanding of required procedures and protocols in regards to safe us of chemical and equipment. • Experience with the care of and cleaning various surfaces and materials. • Must possess a high attention to detail in order to lead a team to complete tasks successfully. • Ability and willingness to lift, squat, kneel, reach, and be on your feet for the entirety of your shift. • Must have prior experience communicating effectively and maintaining a positive attitude toward staff, guests and volunteers. • Capability to work independently as wells as to quickly redirect efforts to new tasks when job reassignments occur. • Must have a resistance to dust and cleaning chemicals as they are encountered on a daily basis. • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater. • Boilers license required, or ability to obtain boilers license in the first 6 months of hire for monitoring purposes. • Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
