Hi-
I'm a singer (42/F, cisgender, mostly white, queer; excited to meet with people of all ages, genders, orientations, and races). I used to be in indie bands 10+ years ago and want to get back into singing.
My idea is this: indie and R and B cover band--probably just a duo or trio to start--to play small local gigs like farmer's markets. Local market musicians tend to play a lot of Pink Floyd, Beatles, 70s rock, and singer-songwriter stuff. I'm not interested in playing this type of stuff. Wouldn't it be awesome to go to a market and hear a Steve Lacy song? Or Grimes, Glass Animals, Tacocat, Lil Nas X, Sleater-Kinney or Lizzo? Or even Built to Spill, Strokes, or PJ Harvey?
Anti-racist and queer-positive people are specifically welcomed. Please don't be sexist, a mansplainer, racist, Republican, or drink or get high during practice.
Definitely down to play more than farmer's markets, but this seemed like low-hanging fruit and an easy place to begin.
All of my recordings are old, but please message me if you're interested in this project and I will send you YouTube links! My voice is probably a tad lower than it used to be, but I still sing decently. I'm a mezzo-soprano. I am classically trained but I can't read music lol. I learn by ear easily though. I also used to write songs with old bands so open to originals for sure!
Thanks!
