Description

The King Tides Project, through which volunteer photographers document the reach of the winter’s highest tides, is about to launch for the 2022-2023 season. The first set of tides on which this year’s project will focus takes place Nov. 24-26. To learn more about this citizen science activity, go here. To help prospective volunteers get ready, CoastWatch and the state’s Coastal Management Program are holding an introductory session on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 5:30-6:30 p.m., in Room 8 of the Yachats Commons (441 Hwy 101 N. in the heart of Yachats). This will be an opportunity to learn more about the project and how to participate, and gain insight into its value in documenting current vulnerabilities to flooding and providing a preview of sea level rise. There is no previous experience or knowledge required to volunteer with the King Tides Project, we encourage all who are interested to attend this event or reach out to us for more information. RSVP for more details on the event. For more information about this event or about the King Tides Project, contact Jesse Jones, CoastWatch’s volunteer coordinator, (503) 989-7244, [email protected].
