This event will be held at Kiwanis Island Park, Merritt Island, Florida. This location is a public kayak launch site. Parking is plentiful; however, we still want to be considerate of other anglers. Expect to see our Heroes On the Water banner and flag We are also happy to serve our Veterans and First Responders (HEROES) in the Brevard County region. Targeted fish are Reds, Snooks, Jacks, juvenile tarpon, and Mangrove Snapper. GETTING THERE: Event address: 924 Thomas Barbour Dr. Melbourne, Florida 32935 From Interstate 95, take Exit 201, FL-520 E/W King St., (signs for Cocoa Hist Dist/Veterans Mem. Ctr/Merritt Island/Cocoa Beach). Travel for 7.1 miles, just passed the Hooters there is a small bridge, the entrance to Kiwanis Island Park is at the light on the left. The kayak launch is far back corner of the park. Send your questions through Facebook Messenger or email to: [email protected] RULES: HOW events are *** DRUG and ALCOHOL FREE *** and Family Friendly. HEROES & guests are NOT allowed to be on or in a kayak(s) during the event without a designated HOW guide or required safety equipment. Everyone MUST wear your personal floatation device (PFD) the entire time while you are on/in the kayak. Sun protection is must so bring your own lotions and bug sprays. As a precaution, we suggest you bring a dry set of clothing, since this is water related event, and we never know about the weather & tides. Bring a lawn chair or something to sit on since many of our locations are primitive and may not have a place to sit. Please be on time, since we can never tell the weather, or the tides could change our event. If you decide to not attend, please advise our staff via email or text. COVID-19 operations are still in affect or until further notice. So please monitor the 6-foot rules and minimize the opportunity to be at risk. Events are subject to change based on things out of the Leadership Teams control. PADDLE. FISH. HOW’s mission is to help our HEROES to relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate into society through kayak fishing, spending time in the outdoors, networking and building comradeship with other HEROES. Who is a HERO? Military Veterans “Retired and Separated”, Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard; First Responders “law enforcement, fire, and medical services”, and Their Families.
