BRAINTREE, MA — Police said they discovered 14 pounds of marijuana when they pulled over a Roslindale man's car Tuesday. Then they found 22 times that in a nearby apartment complex.
Braintree Police Chief Mark Dubois said his officers seized over 330 pounds of marijuana in all, as well as a gun, in disrupting a marijuana distribution operation at the Lennox Farms apartment complex.
Police had been surveilling the complex after information about drug activity in the area. That's where officers say they saw Jamir Castillo, who is known to them, pull into a garage for a few moments before driving toward the highway.
Officers pulled over Castillo and searched his vehicle, finding 14 1-pound bags of marijuana and a hidden 9mm Glock with a large-capacity magazine.
Castillo was arrested and police returned to the apartment he had been in earlier, where they found 320 pounds of marijuana in an unfinished apartment.
Castillo, 29, of Roslindale, was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance, unlawful possession of a large-capacity firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Further arrests and charges are expected.
"This was fantastic police work all the way around by our officers and those who assisted, and now there are 300 pounds of marijuana off the streets along with an unlawfully possessed firearm," Dubois said. "Narcotics dealing and distribution of any kind will not be tolerated in Braintree and we will deploy as many resources as we have at our disposal to keep drug dealers out of our community."
