The river and greenway pass through three counties and 16 cities, providing a natural ecological connective thread from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake and an important recreation, education and community-building opportunity through the center of Utah’s most populated region. This is a social and celebratory gathering for friends of the Jordan River Parkway, both new and old, with music, art displays, a delicious dinner, and an optional educational tour of the Jordan River Parkway and the new Zions Technology Center campus. As part of our celebration, we will recognize and honor individuals and organizations who are leading efforts to revitalize the Jordan River and surrounding environments. This is an opportunity to enjoy a unique setting to observe some of the river’s challenging history, and celebrate its renewal and the vital role it plays in our community, and the natural systems of the Wasatch Region. The Jordan River is a major feature of the Utah and Salt Lake Valleys, and a defining natural resource and recreation amenity for each of the communities it passes through. The Jordan River has been a vital asset to people through thousands of years of human history, serving as a source of life and sustenance, and a center of activity and human connections. For the diverse people of Utah today, it is an urban oasis for walking, running, biking, canoeing, fishing, bird and wildlife watching, and community gatherings, and also provides tremendous volunteer stewardship opportunities that connect people with nature. The river and surrounding natural lands provide vital habitat for hundreds of wildlife species, and a resting and nesting area for millions of migratory birds. The natural services and functions of the river corridor have been important to our past, and are critical to our future. The Jordan River corridor and its connected watershed and ecosystem are often overlooked and sometimes neglected and even polluted. Yet, many are recognizing the important role we all play in caring for this natural and cultural resource. Today many individuals and organizations are hard at work revitalizing the corridor. We look forward to having you join us to recognize a few special individuals and organizations who are our Jordan River Parkway’s Outstanding Friends and Champions. We can’t wait to see you soon at the Jordan River Parkway. Presented By:
