Description

Join us on Wednesday, October 26 at Burdock Book Collective from 6:30-8PM for an evening with Neal Wooten, the Alabama author of "With the Devil's Help: A True Story of Poverty, Mental Illness, and Murder." The event will feature a book reading from Neal followed by a Q&A with the audience. Register through link in bio. Neal Wooten grew up on a pig farm on Sand Mountain in the northeast corner of Alabama. The first person in the history of his family to graduate from high school, Neal went on to graduate from Auburn University with a B.S. in applied mathematics. He became a math teacher and director of a math school in Milwaukee, winning numerous math awards. He is now the Managing Editor for Mirror Publishing, a contributor to the Huffington Post, columnist for The Mountain Valley News, curator of the Fort Payne Depot Museum, creator of the popular Facebook comic strip “Brad’s Pit,” and standup comedian. Burdock Book Collective is an intersectional feminist bookstore that aims to center and uplift literature written by authors of different identities and life experiences, especially voices that are often marginalized by mainstream society. At Burdock, we foster radically inclusive organizing and community building space through our event programming, artist workshops, political education groups, author talks and book clubs. This event is free and open to the public. Burdock is located at the Quaker Meeting House. Parking can be found in the backyard; if the house is on your right, turn into the driveway just before you pass the house and drive around to the back. The bookstore can be accessed through the use of a ramp, which begins in the parking lot behind the house. Street parking can also be found on 6th Avenue S with an entrance in the backyard.
