Chris, Francis and myself have accepted the challenge to ride 100 miles in Tucson, AZ on November 19th. We do this to raise money for continual research into a cure for juvenile diabetes. This fundraiser is for that cause. Kildare's will offer a 2 hour open bar for $30, of which, $20 will go directly to out JDRF fundraising goals. The open bar will include Draft beer, Mixed Drinks and Wine with specials guest bartending appearances by Chris and Francis. Feel free to bring anyone you like. The more the merrier. Between the three of us, we are looking to raise $18,000. We have a way to go yet. I'm taking part in the JDRF Ride because I’m up for a physical and mental challenge that I know will be the experience of a lifetime. And, the money I raise will change the lives of millions of people who struggle with the burden of type 1 diabetes (T1D) every day. Did you know T1D: Is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin – the hormone that controls blood sugar levels Strikes children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle Requires constant carb counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin Is a constant balancing act that can result in stress and sleepless nights There is no way to prevent T1D and there is no cure – yet. But JDRF is working hard to change that. JDRF has played a key role in the discovery and availability of nearly every major T1D advance of the past 50 years, and for the first time in our history there is a clear path to cures for T1D. Decades of research has brought us to a transformative moment where scientific advances are being turned into therapies that are changing the course of T1D. Together we must drive as many of these therapies to market as quickly as we can.
