Description
I am listing my two micro squirrels due to lack of time for them. Please read the full ad carefully before replying. These are EXOTIC pets and do require more care than just throwing some commercial diet at them occasionally.
The animals are two male African pygmy dormice (commonly known as micro squirrels, even though they are a different kind of rodent entirely) who were born in June, 2022. I purchased them from a breeder in Florida and had them transported here. To the best of my knowledge, they are healthy. They eat well and are very active at night. They are bonded to each other and sleep curled up together. They are handleable and don't really bite, but they are skittish. They are distinguishable from each other because one has a small notch out of his ear. I call them Abbot and Friar.
I don't need to part with these guys and will only let them go to a GOOD, approved home. These are also not pets for young children. They are small, fragile, fast, and nocturnal.
Local breeders have been asking $350-$400 per individual when I have seen micro squirrels available at exotic pet conventions. I am asking $350 for both, or $500 total to include their cage (it's a super nice, like-new 40 gallon terrarium with hinged metal lid, two wheels, climbing areas, hidey house, hammocks, a coconut hide, water bowl, and magnetic food dish). If you don't purchase the cage, I will need to see proof of an appropriate enclosure (hamster / gerbil cages, 10 gallon mouse terrariums, etc. are not appropriate for these active, arboreal animals). Please note that they have a specialized diet and eat fruit, nectar, insects, and seeds in the wild. Therefore, you will need to supplement commercial foods with bugs, fresh fruit, and other additives (I have been feeding them Pangea gecko smoothies a few times a week, and they love it). Please feel free to reach out with inquiries.
