HEMPSTEAD, NY — Gold's Pure Foods LLC has been manufacturing two long-time New York food products—Gold's Horseradish and Fox's U-Bet syrups—since the 1930s. The company will shutter its Hempstead plant this spring, citing pressures from the coronavirus pandemic and aging equipment at the site. The shuttering of the 1 Brooklyn Rd. plant will result in 48 layoffs, according to a December 22 state filing. Bob Helland, executive vice president at Gold's Pure Foods, told Newsday that the company doesn't foresee any issues continuing to manufacture their products. "We are exploring options to continue the production of our world famous Gold's horseradish, mustard, specialty soups and sauces along with our Fox's line up of U-Bet syrups," he said. "We do not anticipate any disruption in the distribution or supply chain." The company was family-run by the Gold family, launched in 1932 in Brooklyn and later sold to Westminster Foods in 2015.
