Description

The Newport News Department of Human Services and First Home Care are excited to host the 2022 Adoption Symposium: Cultivating Courageous Kids: Restoring the Spirit of Community & Family. The symposium will offer education and resources on a variety of topics such as wellness, trauma-informed parenting, post adoptions services, adoption competency therapy, therapeutic foster care, kinship care, foster care advocacy, and other therapeutic support. The symposium will feature keynote speaker, Angel Bartlett, LCSW who founded Let It Go Agency and authored two books: Cleaning out My Closet: How the Truth Will Set You Free, and Wounded, but Not Broken. Enjoy hearing from speakers as they reflect on lived experiences related to adoption and foster care such as child welfare professionals, kinship guardians, adoptees, foster care alumni, foster parents, and pre-/post adoptive parents. Lastly, you won't want to miss our moderated panel discussion that will focus on the experiences of older youth in foster care and the need for forever homes for older youth and other supportive services to cultivate courageous youth.
