November is our time to honor zansèt yo (the ancestors) and Gede. The Gede are a family of raucous spirits, who represent life, death, and sexuality. As healers, they are welcome to give advice, heal the sick, and offer protection to children. They embrace the creation and conclusion of life and represent a crucial link to the ancestors.
Fet Gede, Festival of the Ancestors, is a treasured holiday in Haiti that honors and revitalizes Ancestral Spirits. Participants process through the streets and into cemeteries to honor and feed their deceased loves ones. Fèt Gede festivities allow participants to connect with ancestral energies (which includes both family and chosen ancestors).
