Description

Trees are vital. They are the lungs of our planet and one of the best tools for fighting global warming. Yet they are increasingly absent in our modern cities and neighborhoods. Hear from some of our region's reforestation warriors as they explain why we need trees (and lots more of them), and how our campus, city, region and world is creating green infrastructure programs, new policies, and developer incentives designed to help us survive, and truly thrive, in a rapidly changing world. Speakers will include: Larry "Dean" Hay - Board Certified Master Arborist, Urban Forester and Sustainability Coordinator, Office of Sustainability & Resiliency, City of St. Petersburg Deborah Hilbert - Consultant & Urban Forester, Many Trees Consulting, LLC - Outreach Coordinator, Tampa Bay Reforestation and Environmental Effort (T.R.E.E.), Inc. Cathy Harrelson - Chair, Urban Forestry Committee, City of St. Petersburg City Beautiful Commission - President, St. Petersburg Sustainability Council This event is free and open to the public, and day-of walk-ins are welcome. (For Eckerd Students - yes, this is a CPS event.) To help us plan for refreshments, please register so we can adjust accordingly. Thanks!
