Description

Families Against Drunk Driving is an independent group of victims of drunk driving combined with family members of alcoholics who look to publicly call out bad actor bars/drinking establishments who do not adhere to state laws on responsible alcohol management and service. The majority of drunk driving injuries and fatalities happen when the drunk driver has just left a drinking establishment. While others before us have pushed hard to get liquor laws changed to encourage safe service of alcohol and prevent drunk driving, the enforcement is lacking, if not non-existent most of the time. The goal of our events is to make it known how these establishments operate and regularly break the law when it comes to responsible service of alcohol. In doing this, we demand law enforcement agencies to be more accountable to their duties and create new programs. We confront these bad actors and owners of establishments with their actions for their neighbors and patrons to be aware of. We encourage victim statements and remembrance of those senselessly lost. We educate with various drunk driving statistics and hand out material for MADD, Victim Support Groups, Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-anon to walking traffic and patrons entering or exiting the establishment. We are currently looking for a Demonstration Leader to manage an event on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 12pm in the Art Museum area of Philadelphia. Event management duties include organizing the attendees at the meeting spot before walking over, handing out talking points list of detailed descriptions of the bad acts performed in the establishment or by owner/management/staff, delegating people to hand out support group materials, organizing victim impact speeches (time limits, small mega phone use, when to do speeches), and remind attendees to be peaceful and follow the law. We encourage our demonstrators to have signs of drunk driving statistics, pictures of family members, or personal statements about the drunk drivers or the establishments who don't follow the laws the are meant to prevent drunk driving. We hope the event to be at least an hour but will rely on the Demonstration Manager to cooperate with law officials should they arrive and come up with creative solutions to keep the event going for 1-2 hours without breaking the law. Compensation for this position is $200.00 for the event. Re-occuring position may be available. Please send a message explaining why you are suited for this role and we will get you scheduled in as soon as possible if you are a good fit.
