Description

Located in Granite Bay, CA. Whiskey is a 16 year old grade gelding suitable for light riding and/or as a pasture buddy. Approx 15 hands. I'm helping his owner to rehome him as she does not use craigslist and is very new to horses. More on that below. Unfortunately the current owner was poorly advised during this process and I did not know her at the time. He came with a "hoof abscess" which after a trip to a local vet ended up being navicular syndrome in his front right foot. His left foot navicular bone is clean as are his joints in both front feet and all of the x-rays are available. His teeth were also inspected and it was determined that the previous vet overfloated one side of his mouth so there was nothing that could be done at the time. They must simply erupt more and then they can be balanced out at his next teeth floating. Because of this he drops some grain when he eats however he does eventually eat all of it and chews his hay just fine. He was treated with Osphos in July for the navicular and has front shoes only with a wedge on the front right. Due to this he is suitable for light riding and/or as a pasture buddy. The shoes were put on for riding, however he was previously barefoot. It's possible his condition might improve for him to be ridden more given time and continued treatment. Whiskey is very sweet and tends to be a low man on the totem pole when in the pasture with other horses. He is very well broke and super easy to ride. Great ground manners and he easily loads in a trailer, slant or straight load. Great for the farrier and baths. He will happily stand tied. He has a nice stop, back, side pass and easy to sit trot. He also picks up both leads though he hasn't been ridden too much at the lope because of his condition. He rides out on the trail in front, middle or back and has no buddy sour or Barn sour tendencies. He has a curiousness to his personality and is not spooky. He will go anywhere you point him. He would be great for a beginner rider or someone who just wants to go on easy rides. All of his current vet records and x-rays are available. Call, text or email with any questions or to come out and meet him. He is boarded in Granite Bay near Douglas and Auburn Folsom.
