BOWIE, MD — Officers arrested a 16-year-old male after a reported armed robbery on Dec. 28, 2020, the Bowie Police Department said. He is from Lexington Park. Police do not release the names of minors accused of crimes unless they are charged as an adult.
An incident report noted that the encounter happened in an apartment parking lot in the 16700 block of Governors Bridge Road. The victim went outside to check on a car alarm around 10:05 p.m., which is when two unknown males approached, the report added.
Police indicated that the suspects asked to use the victim's cell phone, flashed a silver handgun and said "Empty your pockets." One of the suspects struck the victim, starting a physical fight, officers reported.
The write-up added that the victim wrestled one suspect to the ground. His partner hit the victim again before both males ran away with the phone, police noted.
Later that day, officers spotted the accused teenager walking nearby, leading to his arrest. They also found the victim's phone behind a parking garage on the site. Police said they additionally located the grip of an unknown gun and a sweatshirt matching the suspects' descriptions.
Detectives are still looking for the second suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
