Description
ANNAPOLIS, MD — Ten people were displaced and two were hurt by an Annapolis house fire Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said. An incident report added that one civilian was hospitalized with smoke inhalation, and one firefighter suffered minor burns.
Crews were dispatched to the 1300 block of Tyler Avenue around 2:15 p.m. All of the occupants evacuated before firefighters arrived, but the blaze was still rolling inside.
First responders reported that the middle of three townhomes was on fire. The flames started on its second floor and extended to the attic, threatening the neighboring homes, the write-up noted.
Firefighters added that all three homes were affected. Two were severely charred, and one escaped with minor damage, they said. The Red Cross is helping the residents find housing.
A team of 56 firefighters controlled the flames in about 30 minutes. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the Naval District Washington Fire Department assisted the Annapolis Fire Department's response.
Investigators believe the fire was accidental. They think it started when "smoking materials" touched a plastic-covered mattress on the second floor of one of the homes.
