NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck man is accused of burglarizing several vehicles early Wednesday morning, according to police. An officer was assigned to patrol the areas south of Millville Avenue due to an uptick in thefts of and from vehicles in the community, according to officials. Around 1 a.m., the officer saw a suspicious man walking on Elmwood Street. The man, later identified as 22-year-old Kyle Anders-Huculak, immediately ran from the area after police tried to contact him, officials said. Additional officers were called to the scene and Anders-Huculak was apprehended after a chase that ended on Meadow Street, according to police. Police said Anders-Huculak burglarized several vehicles in the area of Elmhurst Street. Anders-Huculak, of Hoadley Street, was charged with interfering with an officer, sixth-degree larceny, criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny, third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal trespass. He was held in lieu of a $15,000 bond. "Naugatuck Police have increased residential patrols and proactive measures to address the uptick in thefts from motor vehicles and motor vehicle thefts," police said in a news release. "However, we continue to ask for the community's partnership in reducing this property crime by removing valuables from vehicles, locking vehicles, and ensuring your keys are not left in the vehicles, and avoid idling vehicles even in your driveway. Together we can reduce this increase in crime. Please contact Naugatuck Police if you have any additional information on this incident or knowledge of these thefts at 203-729-5221."
