Free Community Narcan & Hands Only CPR Training being provided during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday October 29, 2022 at 10:00 AM-2:00PM Community Ambulance Company 420 Lakeland Avenue, Sayville Earlier this month the Suffolk County Police Department highlighted a nationwide alert issued by the DEA advising of an increase in Rainbow fentanyl—fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes—is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults. Sometimes these deadly pills can resemble children’a candy. With Halloween approaching we have created a collaborative effort to added to the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day by including a free public Narcan, Hands Only CPR and advocacy/prevention stations. The community can walk up without needing to register and quickly learn hands only CPR, receive a free take home Narcan kit, drop off medications for safe disposal or have access to clinicians to ask questions, provide advocacy and prevention tips. Sponsors: - Community Ambulance Company - US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) - United States Congressman Andrew Garbarino - New York State Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo - Islip Town Councilman Jim O’Connor - Northwell - South Shore University Hospital - Great South Bay Coalition - Youth Enrichment Services (YES) - Northwell Health - South Shore University Hospital will have a Public Narcan station where the public can walk up and learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose by using intra-nasal Naloxone (Narcan). Narcan is a prescription medication that is used to reverse an opioid overdose. The station only takes a few minutes and each participant will be provided with a take home Narcan kit. Staff including Physicians, Nurses and the SBIRT team (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) will be available for Q&A. - Community Ambulance Company will have a Hands-Only CPR station where the public can learn the life saving CPR skills. The two step Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective in the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public. This is just-in-time, non-certification, hands on station. - The Great South Bay Coalition and Youth Enrichment Services (YES) will have a table to provide information on prevention strategies, counseling information, and provide tips for how to reduce substance use. - Everyone is reminded that the public can dispose of unused or expired medications at the Community Ambulance Company - 420 Lakeland Avenue in Sayville or at the South Shore University Hospital - 301 East Main Street in Bay Shore from 10:00am-2:00pm.
