MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim, 28, and about a dozen other city workers received the coronavirus vaccine early after learning extra doses were going to be thrown out, according to WTNH News 8.
WTNH reports the city recently received 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine, which must be used within six hours after opening, and several phase 1A workers weren't at the clinics for various reasons. With time expiring on the doses, Florsheim told WTNH city officials decided it was best to get the vaccine in arms rather than throwing it in the trash.
However, the decision to inoculate phase 1B candidates early angered some in the city, according to the Middletown Press.
Common Councilman Anthony Gennaro, a retired Middletown police officer, told the Press he received several calls from people who were angry about it, and he would have liked to see first responders who were on duty receive the vaccine.
