Desert Baroque's 2022-2023 Season of five concerts considers "The Art of Time" in music from the late Renaissance to the mid-19th century. With the music of the Baroque at its heart, all music in these concerts is performed on instruments of the historic period from which the programs are drawn. All five concerts take place at the Artists Center at the Galen in Palm Desert, California. Friday, December 2, 2022, 7 pm - Concert #1: "The Expansion of Time" explores two centuries of the beloved tune "Folies d'Espanga" as heard in Spain, France and Germany. Alice Robbins, viola da gamba; Margaret Irwin-Brandon, harpsichord. Friday, January 6, 2023, 7 pm - Concert #2: "There was a Time..." celebrates an evening of 19th century Parlour Music in a fetching program ranging from Mozart and Haydn to Stephen Foster. Ellen Harais, soprano; Charles Metz, square piano by Clementi. Friday, February 3, 2023, 7 pm - Concert #3: "Timeless Masters..." features a musical program by such timeless masters as Bach, Rameau and others. Ken Aiso, Baroque violin; David Garrett, viola da gamba; Sonia Lee, harpsichord. Friday, March 3, 2023, 7 pm - Concert #4: "Time Out" as Los Jubilados sweetens the beat in a stupendous outpouring of joy and soul in a band of dulcians, recorder, viol, regal and harpsichord. Music from European Centers, the time of Frescobaldi. Friday, March 31, 2023, 7 pm - Concert #5: A special event - The Opsahl/Pritchard Duo, two of Los Angeles' finest players, will present "La selva di varii passaggi," music for cornetto, recorder and keyboards from Early Modern Italy by Frescobaldi, Gabrieli, Guami and more.
