Description
Many rare plant and animal species live on Sign Hill’s native grasslands, including the endangered mission blue butterfly. Help us conserve and restore their habitat by installing native plants and removing invasive plants! Sign Hill Stewards will do important work while also learning more about the wildlife in their backyard. When: Every other Friday from 9am-12pm and the 2nd Saturday of each month from 9am-12pm. Only cancelled for heavy rains. Where: Volunteers will park at the Sign Hill Parking Lot nearby 964 Ridgeview Ct, South San Francisco, CA (Google Maps Link) and hike with staff to the restoration site. Registration: Registration is required. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a youth waiver signed by a parent/guardian. Youth under the age of 15 are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult. What to bring: To prepare for working outdoors, please bring work gloves, plenty of water, sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, a hat/sunscreen, and a completed waiver for each volunteer. Volunteers should expect some hiking on steep terrain. COVID-19 Safety: 6 ft minimum social distancing are recommended for the entire workday.Volunteers should not attend if they have any symptoms related to COVID-19 including a temperature of 100°F or greater. Please bring your own work gloves and kneeling pad if possible. We will provide tools and gloves by request. Provide SSF Parks and Recreation Department with a completed waiver for each volunteer prior to the event via email ([email protected]) or at event check-in.Hand sanitizer and sanitation wipes available on-site. The City of South San Francisco Parks Division and Sign Hill Stewards continue to keep the safety of our residents and volunteers as our first priority, while recognizing and balancing the need to enjoy and interact with outdoor settings. Staff are following all County, State, and CDC guidance in regards to social distancing, sanitation, and mask requirements. All volunteers are expected to also abide by these rules to keep all participants safe and comfortable while on the hill.
