Citrus 101 Description This fall Fruitstitute will offer 2 weekend workshops, all hosted in the Citrus Grove at Arlington Garden, a water-wise habitat fostering a diverse ecosystem through regenerative gardening techniques first used by indigenous peoples, before the advent of industrialized agriculture. Each workshop will begin with a lecture on seasonal care of citrus trees, including tree assessment, biology and physiology. This discussion will be followed by a two hour pruning session where participants will gain hands-on experience pruning citrus trees, using the Arlington Garden citrus grove as our classroom. Join us to learn how to take care of your backyard citrus and help the Arlington Garden citrus trees become more fruitful than ever! Every workshop in this bi-monthly series will cover the same material. Details This series of workshops will give participants the opportunity to learn how to read their citrus trees and properly care for them. Each workshop will cover: Lecture: Tree biology and physiology Citrus seasons of growth What is your tree doing when How to assess tree health When to prune When to feed Citrus growth habits How to prune a citrus tree Hands on: Pruning tools Pruning cuts Citrus pruning Be prepared! Wear sunscreen, sunglasses & hats, and bring lots of water. Pruning is physical labor and hard work. Please dress appropriately (boots, long sleeves) and be ready to get dirty. *This workshop is not suitable for children. *Snacks and water provided.
